Learn about Inspirational Leadership University and Meet Dr. Patricia Thompson
You know you want to be a great leader, but you feel you have so much to learn before you’ll reach your full leadership potential.
In a perfect world, you would have received in-depth training on how to lead. As opposed to being given a quick overview and then being thrown in the deep end, you would have gone through a structured program. You would have learned the ins and outs of leadership, so that you would know how to deal with the sticky situations in which you find yourself when dealing with people.
However, like a lot of professionals, you might have received haphazard leadership training – if any at all. As a result, you’re doing your best – based on what you’ve learned on the fly. Still, you know there’s more to being an exceptional leader than what you’re currently doing.
Or, maybe you’re doing okay with the management part of leading – ensuring that tasks get done on time, but you have a desire to embody the inspirational part of leadership. You want to truly motivate people, bring meaning into the work that they’re doing, and create a high performing team that’s operating on all cylinders.
Imagine…
What if you could…
-Have a clearly defined leadership brand that enables you to lead intentionally, as opposed to leading by default?
-Create an environment that empowers your employees and enables them to do their best work?
-Know exactly what to say and how to say it when you need to address poor performance, in a way that balances empathy with directness?
-Become a strong coach, who taps into what is important to your team members and helps them to grow and develop into the best they can be?
-Confidently lead in a way that inspires others and gets great results…while still being your authentic self?
How would that affect the impact you could make in your organization (and maybe even the world?)
How would that position you for greater success in your career?

Here’s What You’ll Learn:
Inspirational Leadership University is broken down into 6 core training modules. All course materials, including streaming videos, MP3s, worksheets, and more are included in our online student portal. It is designed to be taken over about 6 months, at the rate of about one lesson per week.
Module 1 – Self-Awareness
Strong leadership is based on a foundation of self-awareness. If you lack a deep understanding of yourself, you’ll be setting a ceiling on how effective you can be as a leader. Therefore, in this module, you’ll dive into learning more about your personality, values, drivers, and what makes you tick.
You’ll explore:
-Your beliefs about leadership – and how they can bolster (or detract from) your leadership effectiveness.
-Influences that have shaped how you approach leading people.
-Your strengths and developmental opportunities and how your personality affects how you lead.
-Owning being a leader, and showing up as your ideal self when working with others.
Module 2 – Self-Management
The best leaders are not only skillful at managing others – they are also adept at managing themselves. As a result, they can respond to situations in a way that is intentional, without being unduly influenced by non-beneficial emotions or unhelpful self-talk that can get in the way of doing the right thing.
In this module, you’ll learn effective strategies to manage yourself including:
-How to master your emotions, so that they can work for you, instead of against you.
-How to build a self-care toolbox that will enable you to manage your stress and be at your best.
-How to structure your time and prioritize your work, so that you’ll be working on the right things, at the right time.
- How to build your confidence so that you can quiet unhealthy self-doubt, and lead with a sense of self-assurance.
Module 3 – Coaching and Developing Others
Outstanding leaders help their teams to perform at their best by fostering their direct reports’ growth. They know how to identify and cultivate talent so that people can be free to do their best work. At the same time, they are skilled at dealing with poor performance, and providing constructive feedback.
In this module you’ll learn:
-A step-by-step system for delegation that will ensure crystal-clear clarity on assigned tasks and expectations.
-Practical techniques for holding people accountable, including strategies for determining why others may not have lived up to expectations, and what to do about them.
-How to provide feedback in a way that is helpful and constructive, while still honoring your direct report's dignity.
-How to have career conversations with your team, and create development plans to help them to grow.
Module 4 – General Leadership Strategies
As an executive coach, I have spent thousands of hours working with leaders. In those private conversations, I hear about leaders’ triumphs, along with their challenges and struggles. I have also worked with a lot of talented leaders who are competent leaders, but who want to be exceptional in their roles. Therefore, in this module, I’ll address some common areas that, once learned, help leaders to move from being good to great.
In this module you’ll learn:
-The research behind why employee empowerment is so important and the five pillars that are essential for building an empowerment strategy.
-Why diversity, equity, and inclusion is good for business, and how to create a more inclusive work environment in which everyone feels welcome.
-How to “get out of the weeds” and think more strategically, so that the work that you’re doing today leads to a successful future.
-The value of healthy conflict, why different approaches to conflict are appropriate at different times, and how to both encourage and deal effectively with conflict.
Module 5 – Organizational Culture
All too often, leaders will hire the best and the brightest people, only to find that their performance is stifled by an unhealthy organizational culture. It’s been said that “culture eats strategy for breakfast.” As a result, if you aren’t tending to culture, you’re going to be holding your team back from fulfilling its potential.
To ensure that your area’s culture is top-notch, we’ll cover:
-Psychological safety - what it is, why it’s so important, and how to create a psychologically safe culture in which people can show up as their authentic selves, support one another, and perform their best work.
-How to make work meaningful by tapping into your own sense of purpose in your work, and helping others to do the same.
-Leading with empathy – how to develop more compassion (even if it doesn’t come to you naturally), and how to apply that empathy to your leadership.
-Listening – how to strengthen your listening skills so that you can learn more about your employees and what motivates them, build stronger relationships, and heighten your emotional intelligence.
Module 6 – Tying it all Together
Because you’ll be covering a lot of ground in this course, the last module will focus on pulling everything together so that you can thoughtfully apply what you’ve learned. Therefore, in this section, you’ll be doing a self-assessment that will enable you to create a development plan for the future and come up with your own leadership brand.
In this final module, you will:
-Finalize your leadership vision, based on all of the material that has been covered in the course.
-Develop an easy-to-remember leadership brand statement, that will enable you to keep your goals as a leader top of mind.
-Conduct a final self-assessment in all of the areas covered in the course, to determine your leadership strengths and growth areas.

-It is taught by sought-after corporate psychologist and executive coach, Dr. Patricia Thompson, who has worked with leaders for 15 years, and whose advice has been featured in the Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, Forbes, INC., Business Insider, Time, Wharton Business Radio, and more.
Hello, I'm Dr. Patricia Thompson.
I’m a corporate psychologist, executive coach, and lover of all things related to leadership. Since 2004, I’ve been working with leaders of all levels, all across North America, helping them to get in touch with their strengths, shore up their areas in need of development, so that they can lead in a way that is both effective, and authentic.
Across the years, I’ve worked with clients in a variety of organizations - including The Home Depot, The United Way, Girl Scouts of America, Washington Hospital Center, SunTrust Banks, Baylor Scott & White Health, Mercer HR Consulting, The Georgia Department of Revenue, Chick-Fil-A, to name a few.
My leadership advice has also been featured in The Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Fast Company, INC., CNN, Time, Entrepreneur, Wharton Business Radio, ABC News Radio, and numerous other media outlets.
My book, “The Consummate Leader: a Holistic Guide to Inspiring Growth in Others…and in Yourself” was endorsed by leadership gurus Marshall Goldsmith and Adam Grant, along with Nadine Kaslow, the former President of the American Psychological Association. In other words, I’ve learned a lot about leadership across the years, and have made it my mission to assist others in getting great business results by learning how to connect with, and inspire others.
While I’ve worked for some great leaders during my career, like many of you, I’ve had the experience of working for some bosses who weren’t so great. And while I still performed good work underneath them (after all, I have my own standards), it was despite how they were leading, not because of it. I didn’t feel inspired by them, and even though I did okay, I didn’t perform at my peak. In working with thousands of clients across the years, I’ve seen similar outcomes – quite simply, people tend to under-perform due to poor leadership.
On the flipside, I’ve seen people achieve amazing things when they had great bosses. They were loyal, excited, and engaged about the work. They willingly took on stretch assignments and went above and beyond for the good of the team. Work was fun and rewarding – not only for them, but also for their leader.
In my work I’ve also seen leaders go from feeling overwhelmed, disillusioned, or self-doubting, to feeling confident and competent in their ability to work with a team. I’ve had conversations with their direct reports in which they say things like, “I couldn’t believe – my last meeting with him was actually good,” or “She’s been doing a much better job of keeping her cool – what are you guys doing in there?” The thing is, these leaders didn’t make sweeping changes to who they were at the core, instead, they learned more about leadership and began leading intentionally, instead of leading by default.
Take this course, and you’ll learn in-depth leadership strategies that you can begin applying in the workplace today.

Not sure if Inspirational Leadership University is for You?
This program is NOT for everyone, so read below to see if it’s a good fit for you.
Who Inspirational Leadership University is for:
-Leaders who feel as though they are in over their heads. They are tired of feeling as though they’re “winging it” when it comes to leadership, and want to learn specific strategies to build a department culture and inspire their teams to better performance.
-Leaders who realize that their “soft skills” could use some work, and are willing to self-reflect and invest time and energy into their professional development.
-People who aspire to leadership, and want to make sure that they know a range of practical leadership fundamentals so that when the opportunity arises, they’ll be ready.
Who Inspirational Leadership University is not for:
-People who want an overnight solution to becoming an exceptional leader – being a great leader takes commitment and focus. My clients who achieve the best results are the ones who are willing to do the work.
-People who are more focused on appearing to be a good leader than on actually transforming the way they lead. Regardless of what technique you apply, if you’re not motivated to actually lead from a place of deeply wanting to help your team to grow and feel connected with the work that you’re doing, this course is not the right fit for you.
TOP FAQs
How long is the course?
The course is self-paced, so you can take it at your own speed. However, I designed it to be taken over about a six-month period.
Isn’t six months a long time for a course?
The truth is, when I’m coaching someone one-on-one, six months is a pretty typical engagement. It’s not enough to know a leadership strategy – you’ve got to put it into practice. Therefore, if you go at a rate of about one lesson per week, you’ll be able to maintain momentum, while also giving yourself a chance to truly reflect on, and apply the material.
Think of the last leadership book you read. If you’re like most people, you might have read it quickly, thought it was interesting, maybe applied a concept or two, but probably didn’t hard-wire it into your day-to-day practice. You’ll be learning a lot of content through the course, and I really want you to be able to integrate it into how you lead. Therefore, I highly recommend resisting the urge to speed through the course.
How much of a time commitment should I expect?
If you can commit about 90 minutes a week to the course, you should be able to get a lot of value from it. (It doesn’t have to be all in one sitting).
What levels of leaders have you worked with?
I have worked with leaders of all levels – from brand new leaders all the way up to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Regardless of your level of leadership, I am confident that the material in this course can help you to develop your skills and strengthen your ability to motivate others.
If interested, can I work with you one-on-one?
Absolutely, just reach out to me here, and we can get on a call to discuss your needs.

Here's why you need to sign up for Inspirational Leadership University today.
Take a minute and picture where you want to be in your career 3 to 5 years from now.
Do you honestly believe that if you keep doing things exactly as you’re doing them right now at work, you’ll end up where you want to be? Even if you achieve the position of your dreams, will you know everything you need to know to truly excel and be a rock star?
If your answer is “no,” then I encourage you to take a stand for your development today.

"She helped me break out of unhelpful mental models and address needed gaps."
"When I moved out to Silicon Valley, I was looking to make the move into an executive position. I was somewhat stuck in middle management and sought Patricia's guidance to help me learn and mature in my current role while repositioning myself for the next step. I appreciated Patricia's candor and relevant 'assignments' in-between sessions. She helped me break out of unhelpful mental models and address needed gaps. I have since landed a VP role in a startup and am now growing a team under me."

"Patricia helped me, and my team, break through the disfunction and barriers that hindered us."
"Early in my career and leadership journey I was lucky enough to work with Patricia. Through her brilliance as an executive coach she saw quickly (then leveraged) that which highly motivated me; a combination of pushing and pulling, highlighting strengths and deficits, sharing what others saw in me versus how I saw myself. I owe much of my successful progression as a leader to her. Later in my career, as I lead in one of the most challenging team environments in my career, Patricia helped me, and my team, break through the disfunction and barriers that hindered us. In retrospect, the gifts I appreciate most from Patricia are the time she saved me, and the relationships she helped me create (and sometimes save)."
